Allison Radcliffe, founder of
Cognitive Art Connections

Allison Radcliffe founded CAC after learning about the positive effects of art and the brain after her Mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Through her involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado, she was trained as a facilitator for the Memories in the Making® (MIM) art program. Despite her mother’s passing, she continued for years to facilitate a weekly MIM session on a volunteer basis at the facility where her Mother once lived. She also founded Cognitive Art Connections and facilitated art programs at numerous Denver metro area senior living facilities. Now she brings this experience to the Chicago area through Cognitive Art Connections.

Before Allison discovered her love for working with the senior community, she enjoyed a 20-plus year career in marketing. She is thrilled to have found her new calling and thoroughly enjoys her work and the painters she works with.

Allison loves to bring art to senior communities and witness its positive effects. Specifically in her work at memory care communities, she continues to be astonished by the positive impact made by art:

  • Some participants with diminished speech capabilities recount memories in prolific detail while painting
  • Others with limited motor skills begin to paint more freely after the first few assisted strokes
  • Upset or agitated participants who begin painting often quickly become peaceful and at ease
  • Participants feel a sense of pride and accomplishment upon completing their paintings and their bright smiles make clear the importance of creative expression for those with memory challenges.

Memories in the Making® is a registered trademark of the Alzheimer’s Association, Colorado Chapter. CAC supports the work and mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Memories in the Making program, but is not affiliated.
